I have uploaded 300 projects in a project server 2013.There is a simple way to update the project on a specific date to calculate the expected % completion but this is a time taking task to update the 300 projects. i want to formula or any other way to calculate the expected % completion of all 300 projects at once.

When I approve the tasks in Project Server 2013, the updated % does not reflect in MPP.

I Checked the history in "Approvals" page it shows, "There was an internal error applying the update".

How to resolve this issue?

Hello together,

can anyone confirm that workflows which use a commit event in Project Server 2013 work properly? Having tested several scenarios, it seems that whenever a portfolio is commited in the portfolio analyser, all involved project are commited in workflows, even the unselected projects which were moved out/forced out.

Replication:

1. Create a custom cost field, two workflow stages, strategic drivers with priorisation.
2. Create a workflow with SharePoint Designer.
   Stage 1, action: "Wait for Event: When a project is committed", then go to stage 2
   Stage 2, no action, go to end of workflow.
3. Create enterprise project type for the workflow.
4. Create 2 projects for this enterprise project type.
5. Create a portfolio with those two projects.
6. Create a portfolio analysis where one project remains selected and the other is unselected (moved out or forced out).
7. Save and commit this portfolio analysis.

Result: Both project proceed to the next stage in the workflow.

Expected Result: Only one project proceed to the next stage in the workflow.

Tested in 3 instances, German and English. CU June 2013.

Can anyone confirm whether they actually get the expected behaviour (please stage language/patch level) or whether the "Wait for Event: When a project is committed" needs to be used in a different way?

Hi All -

We have Project Server 2013 environment. In my case, project site creation is controlled by workflow (project site is created whenever project moves from Stage 1 to stage 2)and it is not default. Recently I replaced the existing project site template with new one. After this I observed an issue that whenever user tries to move an old project of same EPT, which is still in stage 1(i.e. no project site is associated with it), to stage 2, workflow doesn't create new project site, instead it throws error and terminates workflow.

I conducted following tests to check the issue:

1. No problem is observed and project site is created based on new template when a new project is created using same workflow-EPT combination.

2. If I re-run the workflow for the same old project, it does create the project site based on new template with no issues.

3. I associate old project site template instead of new template with the same EPT and then try moving old project from stage 1 to stage 2, it moves without any issues and also creates project site based on the old template.

Based on these observations I concluded that workflow needs to be restarted for the old projects in order to accommodate new project site template. But I'm not sure if this is valid conclusion. Can anyone  help me in understanding this behavior?

I'm having some weird behaviour with some of the projects. Once I'm in project the whole project ribbon is disabled. Not only project ribbon any ribbon whether Page, Task etc. are disabled. There's no permission issue as i'm check it with Admin and it was working fine earlier. This is happening with only few projects and I'm unable to find the reason for it. Also, if I click on Project Site from left navigation nothing happens, no reload or refresh. If I go directly try to access Project Site using URL I can access it. I'm using PS 2013 with patch 15.0.4787.1000

We have a master project that has a lot of subprojects that are rather simplistic.  However, we want to set hard finish dates within the subprojects.  Can you set these constraint dates within the Master project on all of the subprojects?  If so, what is the recommended / best practive way to set a hard finish date an overall project and summary tasks within that project?

We are trying to make it easier for the resource managers to manage their teams. In order to do that, we are looking for a solution where a resource manager can change the resource usage for a task assigned to his team member without going in to project schedule.

For example:- PM has a task for 5 weeks duration and work of 100 hrs. The resource usage in schedule has 20 hrs. per week PM only cares about RM meeting his schedule on time and on budget.

RM can decide to perform the work as 0 hr in week 1, 0 hr in week 2, 20 hr in week 3, 40 hr in week 4 and 40 hr in week 5 to complete the task in 5 weeks and 100 hrs.

Is there any way for a RM to update the resource usage in schedule from project web app without opening the schedule as long as the budget and timeline doesn't exceed. If it does exceed, RM is not able to change and get message "Contact PM"

Has anyone else come across this issue? I'm a bit stumped!

I've got a situation with the "Tasks" list in the project sharepoint site that pulls information from the project schedule from the project server/PWA side. Below is a breakdown of the situation:

• Users have been granted contribute/read access to the SharePoint site and the "Tasks" list
• The users do not have access to PWA/project server side only the project SharePoint site
• They can access the "Gantt Chart" view (which is the default view on the "Tasks" list)
• They cannot access any of the other views on the "Tasks" list (i.e. "Upcoming" "Late Tasks" "My Tasks" etc) and receive an "access denied/this page is not shared with you" message when trying to access.
• All the Views are "Public"

I can't seem to find any other references to this happening elsewhere. I'm pretty certain that this issue hasn't existed in the past, so I'm not sure if any updates/patches might have caused it to begin to behave oddly.

I would be grateful if anyone has any suggestions/recommendations!

This is happening with three enterprise resources within a project instance: When the resource is edited in Project Web App, it seems like I can change the resource base calendar.  The related queue jobs process without any error.  However, when I view the resources in the Resource Center, the Base Calendar attribute is blank.

When I check out the resources in Project Professional, the error message "An internal error occurred" appears after I try to save the base calendar change.

The ULS error for each resource is:  "Node Consistency Error: Failed to load Calendar. Uid=<resource_uid>"

Any suggestions to fix this would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

I work for a large UK based technology company and we use Project Server 2010 for our enterprise projects internally. We have been using it for 5+ years now and have only recently come across an issue which is:

Project managers schedule a number of sequentially linked tasks with a finish-to-start relationship. The same enterprise resource is allocated on all tasks. Say each task is 2 weeks' worth of work and the resource is allocated 100% so the duration of each task is 2 weeks/10 days.

Actual work can only be entered via timesheets. The resource inserts manually into the timesheet for week 1 the task scheduled for week 3, and enters 8h of actuals on Monday only. This time is submitted, which goes to the status manager for approval (this is typically the same project manager who scheduled the tasks in the plan). This shows up in the approval center as 8h on Monday highlighted in red and 0h in black for the following 4 days and the following week ie. the total duration of the task. 

Project manager approves this time, and opens the project schedule in MS Project 2010. We can now see the 8h in the Task Usage view on Monday. Project manager saves and checks in the plan. The next time the project manager opens the plan, they can see the 8h of actuals in the Task Usage view, plus 0h of actual work in every day for 2 weeks! Project has moved the task Stop date to the last day of that 2 week duration, NOT to the last day the resource submitted actual work! Resume dates have also moved by 2 weeks, which has the effect of moving the scheduled finish dates out and therefore the whole project timeline.

Our user community insist they have been working this way for over 3 years, and that this issue was NOT present on Sunday 17th Jan. On Tuesday 19th Jan this was reported to us as a critical issue. I have spent weeks trying to properly understand what is happening and doing root cause analysis. I can only think something has changed... but then we operate an established ITIL change management process and there have been no changes on our Application Servers or any of the WFE's, or in SQL. The final thing to establish is whether our end-user computing team have rolled out a group policy or other change to the operating system.

Does anyone know if there is a bug documented in Project Server 2010 that could cause this behaviour?

In our PWA system we have organized our projects in a hierarchy of three levels: master projects (level 1), which in turn include other master projects (lvl 2), which include sub-projects (lvl 3). The sub-projects of level 3 have been published to PWA, the master projects of lvl 1 and 2 have not been published and are only used for client reporting. However in PWA in the project center some of the published sub-projects are only displayed if the checkbox "subprojects" in the ribbon menu is checked whereas others are displayed permanently.

Can you explain this phenomenon? Which property of projects does have an impact on beeing affected by un/checking "subprojects". Which sequence of publishings can have an impact?

I need help on this issue:

- On the sudden, every time i edit a resource on PWA it works like a charm, but if i try to edit on Project (Office Program) after i make the changes and saves it gaves a message of "Logon Account Invalid".

On the event viwer of the client machine and on the server, no messages appeared.

I am currently working on Performance testing for a web based application. I have 2 servers for the application in which the request would be taken randomly by any one server. I have to monitor performance counters as a part of my testing for the application. Using VSTF who can we monitor the perfmon counters?? Any help would be appreciated.

I noticed recently when project manager change the dates of the tasks or remove it, the resources time sheet became empty!!!

i don't know how PM can remove the task which already other people use it in their time sheet ?

is there a permission or role or setting can warn or not allow the project manager to do this if someone is entered his time sheet on this task(which he try to remove it or change its dates) and will be affected with this change? or is there a recommendation to manage this?

the problem that the project managers sometimes change old tasks dates or deleted to enter another task instead of that one.so the people who used these tasks on their time sheet will not be measured correctly because some of their hours is not appear when you open the time sheet.

In Project server 2013 many of the gantt chart format available in the Gantt Chart Format page is not available in the view creation page. e.g Personal Gantt chart (Task) is not available for the any of the Project Views.

We have a newly provisioned ( MSPS 2013 ,SQL Server 2012)PWA  instance with SQL server reporting enabled in SharePoint Integrated mode . The issue is that we are unable to see actions like Manage Data Source , Manage Subscription etc in the drop down list on selecting the properties of the .rdl file uploaded to the document library. Same issue is there while logging in using admin credential . Only very few options are available as shown in the below screen shot.

Can someone help us out with the issue ? Please let me know for any further information required . (The environment has April 2016 PU )

Hi,

I have purchased Project Online and Project Lite edition to do the tasks scheduling. 

I see there is Predecessor button on the toolbar, but not able to add the predecessor as a column. I wanted to add it as a column that is generally available in Project Professional, so that I can change predecessor as and when required for tasks. E.g. Set predecessor to start Task 4 after Task 1 and then start task 2, so that dates are automatically updated. This cannot be achieved by just clicking on Predecessor button from the toolbar.

Is this the limitation of Project Online and Project Lite edition and I need to purchase some other edition like Project Pro for Office 365? I do want to use just online feature and no desktop edition.
