How to create enterprise resources from a 3rd party tool feed and not by AD sync

Hi

I am working on Project server 2013.

We have an existing resource Management tool for managing resources and as and when new resources join the company, they need to be added to project server. Customer does not want AD groups to be synced with project server. hence we will have to add/create resources in Project Server from the resource management tool's feed.

Please suggest how to design the solution or what should be the approach.




Enterprise custom fields with Graphical indicators are not updated when published from PWA only

Hello,

We have a problem with Enterprise custom fields when they are configured with Graphical indicators ,


Issue:-

The problem here appears when we populate these ECF with information (Text) through PDP's ,inserted information does not appear in project center views if the project is published from the PWA, and it appear only when the project is published from MS Project. 

affected ECF Design :-

We have a plenty of ECF connected with lookup tables and is created with graphical indicators. 

status lookup table:-

Contains values like : Red , Amber and Green

Conclusion:-

It works when there is no Graphical indicators in the Enterprise custom fields

Repro 1:-

1-     Creating an Enterprise custom field

2-     Without Graphical indicators and values to display “Data”

3-     Add the Enterprise custom filed into a PDP

4-     Go to a project and edit the PDP and inset some text

5-     Save and publish from PWA

Result:-

After publishing from PWA In the custom Project status view enterprise custom field is populated with the right information “Test”

Repro 2:-

  1.       Creating an Enterprise custom field
  2.       With Graphical indicators
  3.       Link with a look table that has more than one choice
  4.       Add the Enterprise custom filed into a PDP
  5.       Go to a project and edit the PDP and inset some text
  6.       Save and publish from PWA

Result:-

  • After publishing from PWA the custom Project status view enterprise custom field is not populated with the Graphical indicators
  • But when publishing from MS Project, the view is populated with the Enterprise custom field data “text”

Repro 3:-

  1.       Creating an Enterprise custom field
  2.       Without Graphical indicators and values to display “Data”
  3.       Link with a look table that has more than one choice
  4.       Add the Enterprise custom filed into a PDP
  5.       Go to a project and edit the PDP and inset some text
  6.       Save and publish from PWA

 

Result:-

After publishing from PWA  the custom Project status view enterprise custom field is populated with Enterprise custom field data “Text”

Final conclusion :

Problem is reproduced when using Enterprise Custom Field with Graphical indicators and then publish from PWA

Can I limit the available filters for PWA Time Sheet 2010

There are four filters available when a user accesses their timesheet in PWA 2010.  I would like to hide/remove the filter for completed tasks so that users cannot see tasks with 0 remaining work even if they are still able to add them.

We have tasks with more than one resource assigned and encounter the issue where one resource charges more hours than they were allocated.  We cannot close the task to updates since there are other resources who still have remaining work.

I have a list with a choice field (drop-down) named "Channel"

I want the form to display a certain message based on the value selected in the Channel field and hide it if nothing is selected. Is this possible?

Tasks Not On Timesheet

I have a user that is unable to add a task to his timesheet. He is the assignment owner for the task, the task has already started and is still in progress, he is a committed resource, and the task is set to publish an refresh. Any thoughts as to what the root cause of this issue might be?

Hi. After installing the June Project Server 2013 Updates, When I create a new enterprise project, I create it from Project web App and donot publish a site with it.

Then I open this project in project professional and I publish and create a site with the Project, I see the following jobs running in the order:

Project Publish   Notifications

Success

Project Save from   Project Professional

Success

Prepare Project Web   App Permission Synchronization For Projects

Success

SharePoint Tasks   List Project

Success

Project Site Update

Success

Project Workflow   Check-in

Success

Project Publish   Notifications

Success

Project Update from   PSI

Success

Project Create

Success

Project Checkin

Success

Start Workflow

Success

Project Publish

All I am concerned is with the job called SharePoint Tasks   List Project.

The project I created is an enterprise project type, I can verify that from the Odata Project report.

Is this normal??

There was a fix for the task list issue in the June 2015 CU, I think this new job would have been added to fix that project publish stuck at 77 % error.

Still comments are welcome??

Project Server June CU 2015 - Installation error on Web front end sharepoint farm server

Hello,

I was performing the installation of CU on EPM environment servers. I was able to install the CU setup on all the app servers without any issues but the installation failed on 2 web front end servers.

The error message is "An error occurred while running detection". 

I tried to repair the sharepoint product through config wizard and it failed with the error message Error: Some farm products and patches were not detected on this or other servers. If products or patches are missing locally, you must quit this program and install the required products and patches on this server before restarting this wizard.

Any help to fix the issue?

Compare and update project plan with changes from new template (e'g. modified WBS)

Does anyone know whether there is a 3rd party app or if it might be possible to do the following :-

In Microsoft Word there is a feature for reviewing and accepting changes to a document.  When a project template is modified in Project Server , and we want an older project to conform to the new changes (typically in terms of WBS) it would be great to be able to cycle through the project line by line and accept changes from the newly modiifed template. A sort of extended version of the compare projects feature. 

Any ideas anyone ?

Is it possible to use timesheet entry for one security group and deny it for another? I could not find a global permission setting that denies timesheet entry.

Can any one help if it is possible to create timesheets for other users programmatically (PSI or CSOM) ?

Even with the admin rights I am unable to create timesheets for other users. I always get SecurityAccessDenied error.

Is there any setting to be changed on the server ? Note I can programmatically create timesheet for myself but I need to do for other users as well.

SQL Server 2012 - SSRS Integrated Mode Connection to Data Source Error

Hi Experts,

We have an environment of Project server on single server standalone system. Everything is working fine there except the reports.

We created a SSRS report and deployed successfully it on server. Now the problem is that the report is not opening from Project Web App.

When any user clicks on the report, it shows an error which says:

  • An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)
    • Cannot create a connection to data source 'DataSource1'. (rsErrorOpeningConnection)

Please suggest..

Auto-leveling resources with weird results (recurring task + partial units)

Dear TechNet,

in the Image below you see what happened after I applied the "Level All" action. Im am referring to the unresolved overallocation leading to a ROGG.

I got a feeling that this issue arises from the setting "Work contour: Contoured" which was applied automatically by the "Level All" action.
Interesting thing is: If i decrease the meeting time to 2h the overallocation issue is solved and total work amount for 28/07/15 is 6.8h.

What is your best practice to solve such overallocations?

Collapsed Summary Tasks cannot be expanded after publish.

ProjectServer 2013 Feb 2015 CU (server and client both)

15.0.4693.1000 and 15.0.4701.1000 resp.

We've found and been able to reproduce the following issue:

  • Create a plan in Project Pro with a simple WBS containing a few summary tasks having one or several sub tasks each.
  • Collapse one or several of the summary tasks - rolling up the sub tasks.
  • Save and Publish and check in the plan.

Switch over to the web interface and look at the published plan - everything looks fine.

Open the plan for editing in the web interface.

Now all collapsed tasks are gone and the summary tasks cannot be expanded - indeed, there's not even an 'expand' arrow available and trying the Outline/Expand ribbon button doesn't help.

Our problem is that we have different people preparing the plans, using the full-blown client, and other doing simpler work using the web interface only. One particular step in the preparation of the plan is to perform a number of operations on summary tasks only, thus naturally using the collapsed tasks state for this work and then publishing directly after that.

Setting a SQL trace reveals that all the tasks are retrieved from the database, meaning that the issue is introduced on the application server side of things.

I would appreciate if anyone with a workaround - apart from "don't collapse tasks before publishing" - has anything to add.

Where are enterprise templates stored?

I've created Enterprise templates so users can select them without having to download a template manually (What is currently done now). Where are they stored on Project Server? I'd like to access them with PWA for revision control purposes.

Edit for clarification: These are templates for use on Project desktop software to create projects

Project Server 2013 - Hidden tasks cannot be edited in PWA after publishing plan from Porject 2013

Hi All,

I think this is a bug in project server 2013 PWA. Consider following scenario :

Open a project plan in Project 2013, There are indent tasks in the plan. Indented tasks are hidden by collapsing the summary task. Then publish and checkin the plan. Open same plan in PWA. On Project Schedule page, all tasks are visible in checked in mode ; as soon as plan is checked out (edit mode) indented tasks are not gone and there is no pointer to expand the summary task.

While searching I found June 2015 CU link which also addresses similar kind of problem:

I would like to know if this issue has been fixed by June 2015 CU, can anybody please confirm this?

All other suggestions are also welcome.

No current baseline set please set baseline before publishing

Hi,

I am using Project Server 2007.

I am trying to publish a new plan, then I get the error that the current baseline is not set. Even after setting a baseline through “Tools\Tracking\Set Baseline”, The error remains. I use the baseline no. 6 as the numbers 0-5 are not allowed to be used. Please advice.

Resource Availability in Resource Centre

Hi

I recently noticed that some of my archived projects are still showing up in Resource Availability (via Resource Centre) view. The projects are listed in the grid even though the assignments for that resource was completed nearly two years ago!

Please note that I have followed Microsoft's article to archive projects in the system (https://support.office.com/en-nz/article/Archive-a-completed-project-5117fe4f-3c07-4499-8cc9-99321767954f)

I understand the assignment will not be deleted, but why is the grid showing projects that do not fall in the selected date range. I only selected this month's view.

I noticed this in PS2013 also. I only want to see list of projects that are demanding a particular resource within a given timeframe.

Any suggestion will be great as always!

Work v Capacity Report

Hi, I have to date used the OLAP cube approach for building reports as I have had calculated measures to include but I now want to build some simple Work v Capacity reports using data directly from the Reporting database. Is there an equivalent "Portfolio Analyser" table/View that I can access from the Reporting database that will allow me to pivot time, work and capacity or will I have to join multiple tables myself?
