Dale and colleagues,

It seems MS Project Pro 2010 will now accept non-dates (including text such as TBD):

    

Further, this information may be viewed, after publish, in the PWA (i.e. the published DB):

    

Since the published DB is thought to replicate the Reporting DB (RDB), except perhaps for degree of normalization, can you tell us why the RDB doesn't show the same "date" as we see in the PWA and the client:

I have a client we recently implemented on Project Server 2013. When they try to use the icon from Project Center to open a SharePoint Task List in Project Professional it fails.

Attempting to open the SharePoint Task List from Project Center in Project Professional.

It opens up Project Professional and then Project Professional stops working (many times locking up and causing you to reboot the machine).

This works in my own O365 environment on the same client machine, just not in my client's project server environment. In Gary Chefetz book it definitely indicates this should work. Any ideas on what we may have set up incorrectly?

When I set tasks to 'Locked' in the browser and publish, check-in and then chek out again, the "locked" column is set to No again.

How can I fix it?

When building team in PWA, only few users show up in the list. If going first to Resource Plan, then Build Team, the full list shows up. Is it the right way to build team or there is something missing here. The case is with the administrator also. Thanks

Hello,

We have recently started using Project Server 2013 and I have had a persistent problem for the last 3 weeks.

There are 50+ Work recourses on our system and yet the same 3 resources keep switching to material recourses. Their names go blank and only the custom field information remains intact when viewed from the resource sheet.

This seems to happen on some, but not all of the projects that they have work assigned on.

I have gone though the security settings and I am quite sure that the project managers do not have the ability to edit resource information. On top of that they perform two different functions and are rarely assigned to the same task.

I have also been through the resources and there is nothing different between there setup and everyone else's.

Every time this happens I open the resource sheet on every project (no small task) open the resource sheet, switch them back to work resources and then replace these blanks with the actual resource in the 'build team from enterprise'. After a couple of days they start going blank again.

I can find no link. Any ideas?

I am writing master thesis about MS Project 2013 and it would be of greaf benefit to know how the scheduling engine of MS Project 2013 works. Do you know which algorithm or heuristic does it use to schedule tasks?

I have a couple of issues.  Right now we do our projects according to releases.  The issue is that if I am using project web app, all of the projects show up under one location (under projects).  If I create my own sub-site then I have a documents app on that site by default.  I would like to have both the capability to publish the tasks and project to that site as well as have the actual project saved under the Documents directory for that site.

Thought on how I can accomplish this?

Hi Forum users and Project Server Guru's alike,

I have an Excel sheet that connects to the Projects OData feed. In the Excel file I have a sheet that shows a table with the raw Projects data. This includes a colum with the Project ID (or Project GUID if you prefer).

I created another sheet that uses VLookup formulas to search the table for specific data related to these projects in the table on my source data sheet. I also have a cel that has a named range field called "ProjectUID".

After creating this file I was able to upload it to Project Server 2013 (on Prem). And after that I used the Querie string webpart that filtered "ProjectUID" and a excel services webpart that connected with the queriestring to show data relative to a specfic project on a PDP.

This worked fine untill recently...

Please view the image, it shows the change in the file (luck has it I saved a 0.9 version and a 1.0 version on the server). I have no clue how the file suddenly shows { } symbols on the Project ID cells. I have no recollection of changing the data.  But I do know that they are messing up my VLookup formulas  and they will not work with the "ProjectUID" value from the Queriestring because the queriestring will produce a value without the { } symbols. 

Is there any way to know why the values changed? And is there a way to change them back? Or do I need to change all my formula's to incorperate { } symbols?

Hi,

Could any one help me on the below scenario in MS Project 2007.

I have created 2 tasks under one summary task with 25 hrs work each. Now the summary task work hours is 50 hrs.

Then I have done the Baseline for the project, Now for this summary task Baseline work is 50 hrs. 

Now assume for one of the task i am planning to clear the baseline. To clear the baseline for particular task,

Go to Tools --> Tracking  --> Clear Baseline 

Then i have selected the option as "Selected Tasks" and click on "Ok" here.

Once clicked on "Ok", the baseline information for particular task is deleted but atSUMMARY LEVEL BASELINE WORK the BASELINE WORK is not getting updated. 

Please help me on how to resolve this.

I have graphical indicators to show task progress (late, on schedule etc) at a task level and then one set at project level to bring in the indicator. This is working in both Project and PWA for some projects but I have 2 projects which show the indicator at task level but not at project level. I have published the projects several times, waited incase there is a time delay but the field is still not populating.

Anybody have any suggestions on what I can do so the indicator appears.

The need is for an ASP.NET web application to enable its user to view and edit the documents online. This application should support document (office documents) viewing and editing in the browser itself. We are looking for a third party component which offers these services. The API/SDK should not use any ActiveX or InterOp services.

The documents are stored on the client file repository. The API/SDK should not store documents on their server. It must be able to use our own file repository and perform actions on the document.

We are looking for an imaging SDK for .NET that can provide the features below

- Viewing and Editing of Office Document (office documents like word, presentation, excel)
- PDF and TIFF Viewing and editing
- Annotations and Redacting features
- Zoom feature
- Generate thumbnail of the documents

We have been searching online for so long to find the right component. We have explored so many SDKs in this process. Could anybody suggest us right SDK which can do the above?

We are open to buy any premium third party controls/SDK/API. Please suggest us the component which can do the above. We are also open to have multiple API if document and image editing features are not available in one component.

When I browse project detail pages first time. It is taking around 3 minutes to open project detail page.

But for subsequent browsing it is working fine.

Some Project Managers want to restrict permissions on certain lists or libraries in their Project Server 2010 project site. However, when I have done this for them, by breaking inheritence to the parent site and then removing/adding users with unique sharepoint permissions, it seems that when the project schedule is published, some of the newly created permissions are lost.

I have tried creating a SharePoint group at the project site level and then applied it with specific permissions (eg. Contribute) to the list/library and this seems to work better but I haven't been able to confirm yet if this will work in the longer term.

Does anyone know what is the best method to break inheritence and set up unique permissions on a list in a Project Server 2010 project site that will not be lost when the project schedule is published?

Hi Guys

On a new build of Project Server, we are experiencing poor performance across the board, Site Collection, Central Admin, everything is slow.

We have allocated 12GB and Quad core (lower end of the recommend scale). However as there are no users, I would expect it to be fine at the moment (Search is not setup or anything, just a simple service app with a pwa site provisioned).

What things can we check? From looking on the internet, Distributed Cache crops up a lot. Can this bring performance right down?

For the record, we have March 2013 PU and Oct 2013 CU applied.

Are there any known bugs with Project Server 2010 producing the error ID 12015.

I have a user who has the most up to date version of Project Pro 2010 who cannot open projects from Project Server 2010.

Below is there screenshot showing their Project Pro version:

We have the oldest version of Project Pro in Project Server set to 14.0.6134.5000

Below is a screenshot of the Error ID they are receiving with a completely new version I have never seen before:

I have been researching for days trying to figure out where the 14.0.4751.1000 version number is coming from. We have all our users on the same versions that are displayed in the first screenshot. 

Has anyone ran into this issue before?

Greetings again.

I have a quick question about the limitations of Active Directory Enterprise Resource Pool Synchronization.  Specifically, what has your experience been with extremely large numbers of users (10k plus).  Is anyone aware of apractical limit of users in your AD group you would recommend when using theSchedule Synchronization feature on a nightly or weekly basis?

There is a caveat to this question however.  The client has decided (perhaps for some misinformed reasons) to allow access for every user, to every project site, within their PWA environment.  They’ve selected the View Project Site option within theCategories for the Team Members PWA Group for which 90% of their intended users reside.  So when we ran a couple test syncs in DEV with a smaller AD group of about 8,000 users, the sync understandably lasted upwards of 18 hours.  Obviously unacceptable for a PROD environment on a nightly basis and not necessarily ideal for a weekly sync either.

Experience in addition to documents like these, “Best practices for managing a large number of resources in Project Server 2010” tell me that we are way over the practical limit of a scheduled resource pool synchronization...IF the client really desires that all users access all their sites.  But before I submit my recommendations, I wanted to check with the community just in case others may have found a way to synchronize large numbers of users (10k plus) on a nightly or weekly basis, within a reasonable time frame AND allowed all users to access all sites within PWA.

What do you think?

I am working in Project Server 2013, and exercising the Portfolio Analysis capabilities. I've built an example portfolio of several projects which have resource plans. I've created several scenarios with different budgets (cost constraints) and also conducted resource analysis (resource constraints). In the resource constraints, I added an additional resource by entering 1 in the Hire Resources, recalculating, then saving under a new name.  This brought an additional project into the "Selected" queue from the "Not selected" queue.

I then attempted to run the Hired Resources Report and I receive a rather non-helpful error listed twice:  "An unknown error has occurred". 

Any ideas????

Hi all,

We have a strange issue with our approval center. It's showing other hours than the ones that are submitted in the timesheets. For example:

Approval center (green is correct, red are things that should not be there)

What could be the reason of that?

The other way around. The approval center is showing 0h while there are actuals in the timesheet?

Is there some strange sync issue, or..?

Hi,

I set myself as team member in Project Server 2013, when i click on Project,Approvals and Timesheet i receive the below error:

"Cannot communicate with the server. Verify your connection and try again"

I have other account with Project Manager rights, with that account i can open these pages.

Please help.
