'Check product and patch installation status' vs 'Check Upgrade Status'

Hi All,

I'm using Project Server 2010.

I don't know if I have a problem after installing Project Server 2010 CU Aug 2012 and/or Project Server 2010 CU Nov 2012. I have just finished installing CU Nov 2012, and I have different information if I compareCheck product and patch installation status vs Check Upgrade Status. (I had the same issue after installing CU Aug 2012, but I thought it was not important, as the system has been working without problems, up to now).

The first one says that has been installed:

But the second one says that it Failed:

Which one is the correct one?

By the way, running the SharePoint 2010 Products Configuration Wizard after installing the CU, I got an error the first time, but when I run it the second time it finished succesfully.

Thank you for your help,

Hi All,

In proejct server 2010, I have created a copy of standard calender and set one holiday. But when I have chosen this new calender for some existing proejcts, task schedule is not affected by the new calender setting. To check the calender is working i have chosen the new calender for the specific task and then the schedule changed correctly.

I am not sure why the task schedule is not changed when i have chosen the calender at the project level. Is there any settings for this.

Please hlep.

Publishing of tasks to timesheets

$

Hi,

We currently have the task functionality disabled, but timesheets enabled. We currently have Line Managers who publish their "enhancement tasks" to resource timesheets and updates are done accordingly by submitting time against published tasks on timesheet. However, project managers do not publish tasks to timesheets. Rather, resources insert administrative tasks in timesheets for a project and record project time against the inserted administrative task (project). Is it possible to have Project Managers also publish their tasks to resource timesheets and then for resources to book time against the published task, but the submitted time does not update the Project Manager's plan? Bearing in mind that this recorded time of the resource still needs to be reported from somewhere. In other words, Line Managers publish tasks, resources submit time and line manager accepts time and plans are updated. Project Manager publishes tasks, resource submit time, time does not update plan but is captured in a reporting database?

I know this is a major work around and far from best practice, but the question was posed to me, so I would just like to give an accurate answer. I am all for using the system as intended and publishing and updating both ways...

I look forward to your responses.

Many thanks,

Jaco

There is no site configured for this project error after creating new project in MS Project 2010 beta

I have Project Server 2010 beta running in a VM on Windows Server 2008.  When I create a new project from the web interface, assign resources, save and publish I can browse to the new website successfully.  When I create a new project from MS Project 2010 using the same procedure, save and publish I will find the new project on the web interface (PWA) but when I try to browse to the new project's web site I get "There is no site configured for this project".  Further, in my application log on the server I get an error message: Event 7704, Project Server

I think I'm using the same steps using Project as I am on the PWA website.  I haven't been able to find any guidance on the web yet and I'm not even sure I'm on the right forum.  Have I missed a step on the server side or is there something I'm missing withing Project?  I can't find any reference to this error in the trace logs.  Any ideas out there?

MSPS 2010: Step-by-Step Instructions to Setup, Access and Use Reporting Services

Hello,

I need to work on some reports that include data I cannot pull from the OLAP Cubes.  And now I am lost trying to figure out how to access the Reporting DB through Excel.

Could someone point me to a great resource (hopefully with step-by-step instructions) to guide me?  I've read through a lot of material but it's all Greek to me right now.

Thanks,

Approvals on Project Server 2013 - An unknown error has occurred

Migrated Project server 2010 to Project server 2013.  All the quick launch pages were working after I completed the migration. Started the process of publishing projects and statusing/timesheets to update project.

Now I see "An Unknown Error has occurred".   Tried all my solutions for Project Server 2010 without success.

Event log looks clean.

Has anybody seen and resolved this issue?

Cheers!

Project Server 2010 and Outlook/Exchange Server integration

$

Discussion:

Given the direct integration between Project Server 2010 and Exchange Server, it would be nice to have features for booking e.g. vacation, meetings and courses in Outlook and have it reflected in Project Server, so that this time is unavailable for projects.

In November 2009 this was written in a TechNet blog:‘Project Server 2010 now integrates directly with Exchange Server 2007 SP2 or later’ and further ‘If your users want to update task status via Outlook’. (http://blogs.technet.com/b/projectadministration/archive/2009/11/18/microsoft-project-server-2010-requirements.aspx)

I want my users to book their vacation and courses directly in Outlook (which they already use), instead of only updating task status!

Resource Base Calendar is wrong

Hi there,

I'm having trouble with resource calendars. We employ MS Project Server 2010 and Project Professional.

If I add a resource from the enterprise resource pool to a project, Project Professional shows me that this resource has the 'Standard' calendar (5 day work week). When I, however, look at the database (published), the BaseCalendarUniqueId is set to another enterprise calendar (7 day work week).

So either this is a Project Professional bug (it assigns work to this resource based on a 5 day work week) or I don't understand Project calendars not well enough.

Can you resolve this issue?

Thanks, Tom

Does the functionality exist within MSPS-PWA to to draw a report from that shows unsubmitted resource timesheets from past periods?    If not, what is the best practice employed to determine who has outstanding (unsubmitted) timesheets

Thanks!

Getting error 9000(0x2328) on save - PP 2010 and PS 2010

$

Hi!

I am getting the following error when I save a project:

Error Id: 9000(0x2328)

Job Type: Save,

Error Desc: "The project could not be saved tot he server. Please retry saving the project. If the problem persists save as mpp and contact your administrator......"

This is a project identified as a subproject in another project that was created by let say project manager A. When PM A saves it, it works fine.  When the other PM B is saving it, he gets the error message.

When we try the same thing but with a project that is not a subproject,  then it works fine.  It can be saved by PM A or B without problem.

Any idea of the problem?

Thanks!

Unable to edit a field value in Project Center & how to automate project check-in in Project Server 2010

Hi All,

I have two issues:
1. I am unable to edit a field named "Notes" in one of the Project Server project. Is this field only editable in Project Professional or there is some other way? I can edit every other fields in the below image except "Notes".

2. Is there a way to automate project check-in when users sign out? I found only one way to check-in the projects and that is through Server Settings -> Force Check-in Enterprise Objects.
But still I want to know if there is any other way to do it.

Thanks.

The PM has this problem and it apply to the administrator too.

Any clues?

Thanks!

Project Web Access users denied access unless set up in Resource Center

$

We are using Project Server 2007. Do users have to be set up in the Resource Center in order to have access to the top-level Project Web Access site? Going to Site Actions\Site Settings\Modify All Site Settings\Advanced Permissions and creating a new user there using Domain\UserID and setting them up as Team members (Microsoft Office Projet Server) gets them an Access denied error when trying to login to PWA. We want them to have access to the project workspaces found on the parent site and are trying to avoid setting them up in the Resource Center if they won't be part of project teams but I'm wondering if this is even possible.

Thanks for any help,

Judy

Question regarding licensing and Technet Pro

$

Hi there,

I recently purchased a Technet Pro subscription and I have a question about the licensing and no one seems to be able to confirm if I can do what I want. So before I go ahead and buy that server for my home, I would like to know if I'm allowed to do what I want to do. I asked the "license specialist" at my office and he wasn't sure.

So here it is.. I want to buy a powerful desktop machine (powerful processus, 16 or 32 Gb of Ram and a fast HD) to be able to test different microsoft product (mainly SharePoint and EPM). Since I want to test many different situation/configuration, I thought of using virtual machine so I don't have to re-install everything from scratch everytime I want to test a new configuration/situation.

So I thought of creating a Virtual Machine called "Clean Windows 2008 R2 Installation" and install Windows 2008 R2 from my Technet subscription. Then I would copy that virtual machine and name the new copy "Clean EPM 2010 Installation". Then I would clone that VM twice (or as many scenario I need to test) and name them "EPM 2010 Scenario A" and "EPM 2010 Scenario B" and so on. That way, I would only need to install windows 2008 R2 once and EPM 2010 once.

My question is since Technet Pro only offer a limited quantity of key per product, will this setup work or will I run out of product key? Would I need 1 Windows 2008 R2 key per VM or since the VM would be cloned, it will be ok?

Keep in mind that all VM will be run from the same physical machine.

I hope I described my situation clearly enough, if not, do not hesitate to communicate with me.

Regards,

Martin

Hi,

I have a Sharepoint 2012 and Project server 2013 running on a physical server. I also have a virtual machine with sharepoint 2010 and project server 2010. I want to migrate all the data from project server 2010 to project server 2013, all the projects, resources, permissions and project site contents. I followed this http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj200302.aspx and http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj200301.aspx but it seems not working for me, i might be missing something. Anyone please guide me through this and tell me how to successfully migrate old server data to new server.

Thank you.

Hi

We are looking for solutions for saving data from a Project Server 2007, the reason is that we will eventually close down our Project Server installation.

So my first question is ? can we save our enterprise projects locally, then open them in Ms Project 2010 ?

My second question is have anyone a idea how we do with all our minorr project ( that is not enterprise project), we have many projects that we managed from the PWA ( Proposals and minor projects) Do we have to convert them to enterprise projects first or is it any other solution?

losing flag settings

$

I am using Project Server V2010 SP1.

I updated a schedule on the Server via my laptop.  In addition to making some date changes, I made some changes to a user defined flag that drives a filtered view.  I saved and closed the file on my laptop and as far as I am concerned I saved it up to the Server.  I then opened the same file from my desktop machine.  The file is now hosed since somehow the Server dropped most, but not all of the flag settings that drive that view.  I then went back to my laptop and opened the file from the cache version and everything appears fine.  Figuring that this was an issue of the cache on the desktop machine, I cleared the cache on that machine.  This made no difference.  I then went back to the laptop and published the file.  Still no help.  I don't dare wipe the cache on the laptop for fear of losing everything I've built.

We had a problem similar to this back in the spring and we applied a hotfix.  I thought the problem was resolved, but it appears to be back.  Stinking gremlins!

Suggestions, anyone?
