project Server and Project Prof

I am not PM and am pretty new to working with PS and the client. I have Project Professional installed on my system. Working in Project server, if I select to edit the project in the client, the server does not detect that I have Project installed and so, won't open the file. If I go into the project client, and open the Project from the server, I seem to open an older copy of the project because none of the recorded time entries show against the tasks.

Meanwhile, in Project Server itself, I can no longer enter time against any of the tasks on my time-sheet. If I click in any of the cells, they are greyed out. I'm pretty sure I broke something somewhere and don't want to make it any worse. Not sure how to fix this.

Timesheet keeps loading when saved or sent for approval

Of late we are having issue with users while trying to save timesheet and send timesheet for approval. On selecting these buttons the timesheet keeps on showing 'loading' message and when user clicks on any other link in PWA page a pop-up comes up 'You are naviating away from this page, your changes will be lost'.

Most the users facing this issue are either using IE 9 or IE 10 and for some users changing Browser mode to IE 9 in F12 Developer Tools worked but some users responded back saying issue still persists. But for the same users timesheet save and submit timesheet worked fine in Mozilla and Chrome browsers. Cache issue might not be present in IE as this issue happened even after clearing browser cache in IE.

The similar is issue was faced by some PMs accessing Project Center. Also there is no entry for this behavior in ULS logs.

Environment is Project Server 2010 SP2.

Approvals grid in PWA 2013 receives an exception for a user

I have a user that is no longer able to view their approvals from PWA 2013.  They are getting a General Unhandled Exception error instead.  Nothing is writing to the queue or the ULS logs when this occurs.  The message they are getting on the screen is "General Unhandled Exception in _Statusing.ReadStatusApprovalsForProjectForGridJson_".  Does anyone know how to fix this problem or identify what is causing it to occur?  There is no custom development at this time and everything is Out of the Box.  Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Disk Space missing

Hello all,

I have a disk space issue in my 2008 R2 SP1 server. i have un-hidden the files and checked the total size by selecting all the folders and files in C drive and found the size is 39 GB. C drive has 70 GB but remaining 30 GB i am not able to find. How can i check the remaining 30 GB missing one.

Need your help.

MS Project Online Strategic Impact Option missing

Hi Project Guru's,

I've subscribed to project online ( cloud version of project server 2013) and have created set of projects and strategic drivers.

But I dont know how to set the strategic drivers to projects. On the Left hand side menu when i select a project i dont get the "Strategic Impact" menu item to enter them.

Can some one please guide me, to get the Strategic Impact menu item in Project Online or is there a different way which i need to approach to map the strategic drivers to projects in order to do Portfolio analysis.

Time reporting period s

I've a problem after creating reporting periods for the 2013, in the "Time reporting periods" page they seem to be well done like in the previous years, also when we fill in the timesheets all appear as usual, but when I open my reporting excel sheet the "periodname" field is always "period pending" for all the timesheets of 2013 (previous year are correct), someone can help me????

Project Site/Workspace Inheritence with Master/Sub Schedules

If we have a master/sub set of schedules established and we add a user to the master schedule I know they will then see the master project site, but will they also have at least read access to the sub projects, project sites/workspaces?  I know there is an inheritance button for the sub sites, but our understanding is that the user permissions would automatically inherit when this configuration of master/sub is established.

Unable to Connect to Project Server 2013 with Project Pro 2013

TFS/Project Server - where to run tfsadmin.exe

Where do I run tfsadmin.exe in order to register PWA etc?  On Project Server or on TFS? 

I installed the TFS extensions on Project Server, but that didn't add tfsadmin.exe to Project Server.  Got me thinking that perhaps I should be registering PWA and handling field mapping etc on TFS.  Definitely don't want to have to install Visual Studio on Project Server just to get it.  If I need it on Project Server, can I just get the exe from codeplex?

Issues downloading 60 Day trial version of MS Project Professional 2013

Hello there.

I am truing to download the 60 day trial version of Project Professional 2013, however after typing in my details on the Technet page (https://profile.microsoft.com/RegSysProfileCenter/wizard.aspx?wizid=6877ab32-ec63-44a5-b9a5-505eb1fef364&lcid=2057), the "Continue" button does not work, thus not allowing me to continue on to install the product.

Are there any workarounds for this?

"TF298009" error while Associate an Enterprise Project with Team project

TF294003: Cannot access the following PWA instance: http://spserver/PWA. Project Server returned this error:
"TF298009: You do not have sufficient permissions to map, unmap, or check the mapping of an enterprise project to a project in Team Foundation Server. You must be a member of the Project Managers group, or a site collection administrator in SharePoint Permission Mode, in order to perform this operation.". Verify that the PWA instance exists, and that the necessary permissions have been granted to the service account for the team project collection to access the PWA.

1. TF294003: Cannot access the following PWA instance: http://spserver/PWA. -- TFs is accessing PWA succesfully

2. TF298009: Added all the required permissions in SP, PWA and TFS.

Can Anyone help on this.. which step I missed.

When I create a blank project the Sub Project button is greyed out(I cannot add projects).

Cannot adjust summary bar style in Global Template

I am able to change the height of the bar to the Hal height, and save successfully, but when I check in and go back into the global template, the formatting is set back to the original summary bar format. I tested with a solid bar on this, and it saves successfully and works... It is only on the half height summary bar it keeps reverting. This is in Project Pro 2013 with Project server 2013 utilizing the global template.

Making Project Server Enterprise Templates available in Project Professional (2013)

I've created an Enterprise Template on Project Server 2013. It doesn't have a template Project Plan, only a SharePoint Project Site Template and a few project-level details (department, etc.)

The template is available and works well when creating a new project within the PWA, but it is not available for a Project Professional client. I see two tabs - Featured and Enterprise, and no templates are listed under enterprise.

What am I doing wrong?

Updating a field automatically with workflow

Hi everybody

We are working with Project Server 2013 on premisses. We are building a workflow, and I would like to understand the behavior of the SharePoint Designer when trying to set a field automatically. We wish that our workflow goes like this:

An user starts a project and fill out a PDP. As soon as he sends the project to the next stage, the workflow has to set a field automatically. This situation will happen a bunch of times, in all workflow stages. So it was build like:

Stage A:

-wait to a project to be submitted

-then set the field 'Project Status' to 'Initiating'

-then go to Stage B

Stage B:

-wait to a project to be submitted

-then go to Stage C

... and so on.

The point is that I have noticed that the field is being updated only if somebody opens and saves the project during the Stage B. If there is no action after the project is submitted, the field remains empty. Is this an expected behavior of SD or did I miss something?

MyTasks web part not working properly after upgrade

After upgrading SharePoint/Project Server 2010 Service Pack 2 to 2013 Service Pack 1 MyTasks web part is not working properly.  On the PWA site everything works right.  However when I add the web part to other subsites, all tasks pull fine, but clicking on individual tasks yield page not found (off PWA site).  One thing I find interesting is the URL I see when hovering over a task on a subsite:  http://servername/pwa/subsite/taskdetails.aspx?proj=LONGSTRINGPROJECTID&Source=http:3A//servername/pwa/subsite/default.aspx  I verified both web parts at the PWA site and subsite are configured the same (essentially just the project web app URL of http://servername/pwa).

Function works in MS Project Pro 2010, but not in MS Project Server 2010

I have an custom enterprise text field in Project Server 2010 that uses the "Instr" function and it works fine.  I created a local custom text field in MS Project Pro 2010 that was similar, but uses the "InstrRev" function and it works fine.  I then go to project server 2010 and try to create a custom enterprise text field using the "InstrRev" function and I get a message that says, "This formula contains errors.  Correct the formula and try again."  It's the exact same formula that I tried in project pro - copied and pasted.  Why is that?  Does Project Pro allow for a wider range of VBA functions in local custom fields than Project Server does when creating enterprise custom fields?  Is there some way around this?

Internet Explorer (11.0.9600.17207) crashes on 2nd lookup selection in JS Grid page - Project Server 2010 (SP1)

Hi all,

we are facing a scenario that crashes IE (11.0.9600.17207). When a user with IE 11 with that version opens a grid page (project schedule for example) and updates a lookup field, IE will crash when the user expands the lookup field widget for the 2nd time.

This scenario is not recreated on previous IE 11 versions.

We traced the error to the CustomFieldWidget.js file line 149 (form.appendchild...):

Odata Connection Refresh Error while using excel web app - Project Online 2013

Hello All,

I am trying to work with odata reporting on project online 2013. I am not using MS Excel client, I open any of the available default report in excel online. when i try to refresh data connection from data tab. it's giving me an error as show below 
screen..


I have already enabled "PWA for excel web app refresh" feature.  

Following the blog instructions and microsoft support, i have tried to grant permission to

AppId=  00000009-0000-0000-c000-000000000000

And In the Permission Request XML field, copy and paste the following XML:

    <AppPermissionRequest Scope = "http://sharepoint/projectserver/reporting" Right="Read">

    </AppPermissionRequest>

    <AppPermissionRequest Scope = "http://sharepoint/content/tenant" Right="FullControl">

    </AppPermissionRequest>

</AppPermissionRequests>

Now, According to the microsoft, it should show Microsoft.Azure.Azureservices as Title but as per below screen shot it shows Power BI Reporting and Analytics.. title.<o:p></o:p>

However, i click on ok button and check that the permission has been granted. i can see Microsoft Power BI reporting and analytics in the app permissions.

I again go to my BI reporting, open my report in excel online and refresh the data connection and nothing changed. It's giving me the same error.

I hope that i am able to narrate my problem. Please tell me, What i am missing here...
