Migration of Project Web App site content in Project Server 2010

Hello all,

I have a project web app "http://server/pwa" and I want a new project web app "http://server/sites/pwa" with all the content from "http://server/pwa".

How can I migrate all the content including the projects, users, permissions etc... to the new project web app site from the old one.

FYI: Project server is in a SharePoint enterprise server as a service application.

I really appreciate the help, thanks in advance.

Can any one provide me information on , Are there any circumstance when it becomes too late to recall a time sheet? (I mean any time limitations for recalling a timesheet by the user)?

Best Practice for name changes

Greetings.

We are using Project Server 2010 currently, and I'm looking for a document/ideas that describes the best practices around name changes.

Consider that one of the Team Members or PMs got married and last name changed. This trigger a change in AD account, email, display name etc. Typically if this was just SharePoint, I'd use Move-SPUser or STSADM -o migrateuser command and that's just enough...However;

What's the best practice on this scenario when Project Server is involved? Just using Manage Users or first using Move-SPUser or STSADM -o migrateuser and then using Manage Users and update user details?

Project server 2010 Reporting Database Schema

Hello,

Could someone please provide me with a link to the Reporting database schema? I tried looking it up online but was unable to find an entire schema of the reporting database that shows all the fields with their tables and relations.

When submitting timesheet warning message - The submitted timesheet contains lines that have been rejected.Update these lines on your timesheet and then resubmit it.

Hi,
Few tasks deletion (task with hours) at user timesheet level has been rejected at status updates.

Now when the user is resubmitting the timesheet, warning message comes up saying "The submitted timesheet contains lines that hav been rejected. Update these lines on your timesheet and then resubmit it."

User deleted his timesheet and filled with all 0's. But it is giving the same error again and again.
Any help would be appreciated.

Task Start and Finish Dates in Gantt Chart do not match with those in "Task Usage" view

 I am using MPP 2010 to plan for a specific training program.

1) The training durations are 3 hrs or 4 hrs.

2) The training should start and finish on the same day (fixed duration) and require 3 hours to complete (fixed work for teacher and students).

3) Trainings have dependency (like training2 can begin only after training1. but both trainings can happen on same day).

What I did:

1) Set project start date, created project calendar

2) created tasks and depedencies. created summary tasks (no links between summary tasks, no resources assigned to summary tasks)

3) assigned resources

4) I did not manually enter start and finish date for any task, so there were certain overallocations

5) After I did auto resource-levelling, some tasks got split (like - a 3 hr training was showing 2.68 hrs on Monday and 0.32 hrs on Tuesday (#problem1)

6) Then I had to use "Task Usage" view to solve above problem and I manually entered integer work hours against resource and a calendar date.

7) After step 6, Task Usage view shows correct integer hours for each task. Each training ends on the same day, all dependancies are taken care of.  I could see in "Resource Usage' view that - no resource is overallocated as per project calendar.

8) When I come to Gantt chart, I see 2 issues:

Problem#2: Task Duration is not 1 day and there is gap between Start date and Finish Date (even all my tasks start and end on same day as per task usage view).

problem#3: For Summary tasks, the Start date shows correctly (earliest date for its subtask) but Finish date does not show <latest Finish date for its subtask>

Can you please help me find answers to these 3 problems? Please let me know what I should have done to avoid these problems?

Editing Multiple projects on Server

Hi there,

I'm sure there's an easy answer to this, but I can't find the answer.

I need to edit multiple projects/resource allocation from one view.

My method: 

1. Open Project Centre

2. Ctrl+ select multiple projects

3. Open in Proj Professional 2010

4. Make changes to projects.

5. Publish. 

When I Publish, the Project Centre shows that multiple projects have merged into the newly Published file. How do I make edits to multiple projects without having them merged into the new file?


Seeing Resource allocation within Groups [Resource Usage view]

Hi there,

Is there a way to show overallocation when you use the 'Group By:' function?

I've created a group to match the roles of my resources. Similar to how resource overallocated appear in red text, can something be set in server to show this when I turn on the group by feature?

On the group level I can see the total work and Available work. With this information I'm guessing you should be able to turn on a setting or write some code to compare the two figures on an 'Outline 1' level  and highlight text fields red if one figure is higher than the other.



Project Server queue is failing because of Deadlock

I am posting this issue again and again on this forum but I am not able to get any productive solution to this problem. Please reply only if you have experienced the same issue.

I am running Project Server using Project server 2007 (SP3) (64 bit) with SQL Server 2008 r2 on Windows Server 2008.

Many of my WSS Workspace Create and Project publish jobs are failing randomly

Whenever the job fails, it exactly fails at following percentage:

Project Publish  --> 96%
WSS Workspace Create  --> 0%

According to the ULS Logs (log of 14), the reason in all the cases is DEADLOCK.

I have already tried following things to fix the issue but nothing worked:

  • I have configured queue settings.
  • I have set the Maximum Degree of Parallelism to 1.
  • I perform Re-Indexing and Update Statistics every day.

Can you please inform me that what can be the reason of failing these jobs? Would the issue be on project Server side or on SQL Server side?

Risk & Issue Register Forms - Category

Hi All,

Can anyone provide me the list of common categories we should provide for Risk & Issue register forms in the project site ? Right now it is showing default Category 1, Category 2 ...

and also do i need to change the drop down values as part of project site template change ? or any other way i can update these column for all of project sites?

Error importing XML in Project 2010

Hi all,

I created a program that exports plans in XML from an application I wrote to MS Project. It worked fine with version 2007, but after upgrading to Project 2010, all the tasks imported from my XML files are now "inactive". 

I tryed to introduce an <Active>1</Active> attribute under the <Task> one, but It doesn't work.

Can you help me?

Project Server 2010 - Why in some cases I have to recall the timesheet, submit and approve it again in order to get the Actual Work in Project updated?

Hi,

I'm using Project Server 2010, and I have found a very difficult issue.

There are around 200 resources and all of them report their actual work through timesheets, we are using Single Entry Mode, but we don't use the 'Only Allow task updates via Tasks and Timesheets' option, this is because we have some external users that do not report timesheets, instead the Project Managers use the Actual Work or %Complete in Project Professional in order to report their actual work.

The issue is that, in some cases, maybe 5% of resources every week, have their timesheet correctly submitted and approved, but the Actual Work doesn't appear in the project when we look at them in Project Professional, and the only solution I have found, up to now, is to recall the timesheet, submit and approve again, and then the actual work gets updated and sync in Project Professional.

This issue is so difficult because I haven't found any way to trace it, and I don't know how to catch it.

Do you have any clue that could help me?

Can anyone help please?

I am an EPM Administrator for my company and we are currently using Project Server 2007. Our company has recently upgraded from XP to Windows 7. Since the upgrade on a very regular basis users are locked out of the system and recieve the following error:

Error: Access Denied

Current User

You are currently signed in as: MSDOMAIN\xxxxx

Sign in as a different user

The only way to fix this error on a case by case basis seems to be to take the user out of their current security group, put them into the Administrators group, remove them from the administrators group and then put them back in their original security group. This works temporarily only, within a few days I get the same user calling me up to reset their access. I have over 200 system users and the overhead is becoming ridiculous.

Our IT group has no Project Server experts and so the problem was escalated to microsoft nearly 2 months ago and still no resolution. We need a permanent solution and nobody seems to know what the issue is. The best I can guess is that its a compatibility issue between Project server 2007 and Windows 7, but nobody can even confirm this for me so far.

Is there anyone out there who might be able to shed some light on this issue?

Cannot see OLAP cubes when connected to the SSAS database in Excel

I recently created two cubes in a new SSAS database on SQL 2008 (10.50.2796.0). I also created the role and added an AD group where a test user of mine is a member of. This user was able to connect to the database in Excel, but she can't see any cubes listed in the database. She is able to access other cubes in different databases on the same server.


PS 2010 - Published on Internet - Information & Grids are missing.

Dear Folks,

We published the PWA on internet, but after that Project Center information & Grids are missing. Have a look at the screen shot:

Now you can see nothing is coming on project center also same for many other features. 

AMM configuration is OK, that's why we are able to access. Now could anyone tell me what's the problem?

Hi Guys,

We have a PWA over internet, its is working fine except the JS Grids. Project Center, Resource Center and other JS Grids are not appearing in PWA when we access over Internet.

Any solution or suggestion to resolve this issue.

Delegation Issue : While approving timesheets

Hi All,

We are using project server delegation functionality where chief of staff would be approving the timesheets submitted by the resources on behalf of the resource manager.

Chief of staff will use delegate functionality in project server, and will work as a resource manager. And approve the timesheets submitted by the resource.

Every thing working fine , expect , the timesheet status is showing as approved, and approved by : Chief Of Staff (This is wrong , it should display as resource manager).

Please any one let me know if this is designed like this/ or a bug in the system.
