Export to excel and PWA subsites

I'm probably missing something simple (usually this is the case with these)

Setup:I have my 2010 PWA site (http://myawesomeserver/PWA) and a subsite (http://myawesomeserver/PWA/reports) was created just for reports (via BDC connection)

Issue:When anyone goes to the http://myawesomeserver/PWA/reports link and view a report (http://myawesomeserver/PWA/report/userreport.aspx) the export to excel option is not available.  

Other: I've tried looking into permissions and researching CAML code edits in SharePoint designer and still cannot get the button to appear.  The export to excel button is available in PWA just not in the subsite.

Otherx2: http://exportexternallist.codeplex.com/  -- is this my only solution?
