My company uses Physical % Complete for EVM calculations, so we have set the EV Calculation Method in each project file in project server to 'Physical % Complete' and we check to make sure the Method is Physical % Complete at each task level as well.
Once the file is baselined and values are entered for Physical % Complete, numbers for Physical % Complete (PPC for short) roll up for the summary tasks and the entire project. However, if the baselined file changes due to new tasks added or existing tasks change indentation, the roll up at summary tasks do not capture the changed task PPC values. They do start rolling up again IF the file is re-baselined and the PPC values for the changed tasks are updated after the re-baseline.
Is this by design or is there a flaw? Not every change warrants a re-baseline, so I'm not sure why this would be the intended purpose. In my company, a re-baseline occurs only if the change is over a certain threshold of cost, can only be done by PMO and needs justification. Can anyone shed light on this or provide a workaround?
We are using MS Project 2010 and Project Server 2010.
