Project Server 2016 reporting jobs stuck in queue

For the last week, reporting jobs have begun to get stuck in the queue. They are piling up with a status of Waiting to be processed. All other jobs complete successfully. I thought the reporting database may be out of sync so I tried to backup the custom fields and restore them to rebuild the reporting database as described in many posts. The restore job fails with the below error:

The reporting jobs are of the type Reporting (Timesheet Save), Reporting (Project Publish), Reporting (Timesheet Status Sync), and others. There are 4 reporting jobs that completed. 2 with the type Reporting (Timesheet Save) and 2 Reporting (Timesheet Project Aggregation). Does anyone know of a workaround to get this resolved?

Hi Team,

I would need you help in addressing one of my client requirement as per below.

Environment: Sharepoint 2016(on-prem) with Project Server 2016

Step:

Created a Field "ABC" using Enterprise Custom Fields and Lookup Tables

      a) Use Entity as "Project"

      b) Type as "Date"     

     

Now my requirement is to get the date difference between today's and the column "ABC"

So was trying to create a new column with formula but I am not able to insert field "ABC" which I have created in above step. 

Any help?

This was working and cannot figure out why or when it stopped.  Its a test farm and just notice the project schedule is not displaying in PWA.  See screen shot below.

My project schedules are showing blank lines.  When opening project schedule from PWA on Windows 10 or Windows 8, using IE or Chrome, it is blank.  It is also blank when opening schedule on Windows server 2008, 2008 R2 or 2012.  It sometimes works with Chrome when using a different user account but not consistently.

However, it works when opening schedule using Windows 7 using IE or Chrome and when I open PWA schedule from any of the farm servers (Windows Server 2012).

SharePoint 2016 server farm is running, Front-end, Cache, App and Search server and SQL server 2016 and last patch is KB4011578 and KB4011576 packs (dependent and independent). I have run the SharePoint Products Configuration Wizard on all the SharePoint 2016 servers.

I am using the Administrator account to make sure permission is not an issue and behavior is the same.

Note that the ribbon doesn't look quite right, because the edit and close button are both enable.  The project is not checked out.

Any suggestions?  Anyone seen this themselves?

Hi,

Since Project Server 2013 (on-premise) we used Resource Capacity data connection to see report for "Allocated capacity and Resource capacity" on monthly basis. After migration to Project Server 2016 (on-premise) "Allocated capacity" are 0% except some resources with possibly allocated capacity before migration. Is this report still valid? Is there another way to get a similar report?

MS Project server has options to connect with reporting tools like Power BI. Can MS Project Professional be connected to any similar reporting tools without linking with MS Project Server?

I built a Project Server 2016 system with SQL Server 2014, migrated our 2010 data and ran the January language dependent update. The prospect of language dependency is not an issue with us and I recently updated with the June 2018 CU (Independant) and noticed we still seem to have some of the issue's the current and past month's updates resolved. Question is should my patching have followed the dependency of a previous patch. I would think not but want to make sure. Also, can I uninstall the previous Jan LD patch and re-run the SP config wizard?

Our organization has multiple Enterprise Project Types. The PDP's differ for each Enterprise Project Type. We have several required ECF's that we add to PDP's. Not all required ECF's are part of the PDP's for each Enterprise Project Type. We are having an issue where we are unable to check in a project after project creation due to project server requiring data for an ECF that is not part of that project types PDP. The only solution I have found at this time is to only make an ECF mandatory if it exists in a PDP for all Enterprise Project Types. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

Example: Sponsor is a mandatory ECF that is added to our standard project initiation PDP. This ECF is not added to any PDP's for our non-standard project, we cannot check in a non standard project because it is requiring "Sponsor", yet this ECF is not part of any PDP for our non-standard project.

Recently we applied June CU 2018 to our project server 2016 instance. I'm not sure when exactly this started but our users can no longer save actuals against their projects. Administrative time is ok. I've reviewd the logs and came up with a couple of point of reference.

ReportingTimesheetSaveMessageFailed was associated with exception: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException (0x80131904): Violation of PRIMARY KEY constraint 'PK_MSP_TimesheetLine'. Cannot insert duplicate key in object 'pjrep.MSP_TimesheetLine'

we have numerous issue's with this system (the data was migrated form a PS 2010 database(s)) and most of the patching does not seem to resolve the problems outlined in the patch. the upgrades show all the proper success messages.

That being said, can it be done this way?

Project Server 2016 - June 2018 Updates.  Some customers at a remote site reported "internal error applying the update" when publishing approved tasks on StatusApprovalsHistory.aspx.  The error was only happening for this remote group, so we thought the reason was most likely due to known network latency issues combined with how many items they were publishing at a time (10-20).  After suggesting that they publish the updates a few at a time instead of such a large number, they didn't receive the error anymore.  At some point shortly after applying the June 2018 updates, they pointed out that even if they publish just 1 item, ALL of the items that had a status of "Unpublished" were getting published.  To verify this, at my own location, I created 5 tasks and approved them all at once through Approvals.aspx.  Went to History > StatusApprovalsHistory.aspx > and published just 1 item out of the 5.  After some time and a page refresh, all 5 of the items show as published.  Is that typical behavior?  Shouldn't I be able to publish 1 item at a time?

Hi Guys, 

I'm stuck with something strange. The workflow works fine with any user, but when someone creates project and assign some other user as owner, and check back project in, so what happens is that when the new owner check out the project, set some fields and submits, the workflow is throwing error of Forbidden when trying to update customfield through a web service. What is strange is, when the same user creates a project, fill in the required fields and submits, it works fine. 

Any opinion what could be the issue.

I am using PWA (like Project Server) and like to open up my projects from the Project Center.  Project center randomly fails to open the project when I click on the icon next to the project name.  It gives the error "Sorry, we were unable to open your project.  Please try again.  If this happens again, contact your administrator."  

When I open the project by opening MS Project and clicking "Open/Project Online (under Project Web App)/Browse/Show me the list of all project/(Then select the project)  It always work.

Why does the first one fail, and what can I do to stop it.    The funny thing is the first way works about half the time, and I have not discerned a reason when it fails and when it works.  I think things that fail start working again after a while.....

Hello

in PWA Project Center I have as Project Leader the overview about several Projects.

There are several columns which give me information.

For me - one is missing: i would like to see in this overview the task(s) or resource(s) which is/are working or should work on the project right now. So i need a new column like a currently working resource or task or whatever.

But i can´t find such a column n the manage views to add it for this view.

We might define a custom field like and care about the current status of this field, and add this field to the view, but we don´t want to care about manually.

Any ideas? Olof

Project Server 2016 - June 2018 Updates.  We have prod, stage, and dev environments set up for our Project Server solution.  All of the environments are at the same patch level and are as identical as possible.  An odd thing is happening in the stage environment.  In a normal situation, if we add an item to the Risks list in the project site, we can see in 'Manage Queue Jobs' that a job called 'Reporting (Project Sync)' runs successfully after adding the item.  In stage, if we add an item to the Risks list of a project that already exists, the 'Reporting (Project Sync)' job never shows up.  Querying the database shows that the newly created item did not get written to the database as it normally would.  This causes a problem with Reporting, because the developers get the data for the Risks list from the database.  If we check out that project, make a change, then check it back in, the item then shows up in the database.  Newly created projects do not have this problem.  In working environments, the item shows up in the database almost instantly without having to check out and check the project back in.  We tried the same exercise on the Issues list in the same project site and it did not have the problem.  It seems to only happen with items that are added to the Risks list.  I could not find anything in the ULS logs related to this event.  Even after turning on verbose logging.  Any ideas what's going on here?

Only yesterday morning my project was finished. All the past day I checked it for reliability and other details. In the end of the day when opening .mpp I saw strange trouble, it stopped opening. Third opening I saw - Project cannot recognize this file format. Do you want to open this file as text only?. I used ms project file repair tool from Microsoft, but it could only open it, but without any data. I only saw empty space.

It has always worked before the only thing i can think of that changed recently is i downloaded microsoft edge on my cell and pc.  When i go to add a device. my cell phone shows but will not connect. i have messed w privacy settings this is hour 3 w no results. Someone pls help me lol im tech illiterate. Unless its downloading an app or going to a web site im lost . The sad part is i'm only 29.

Hi,

I have a master project in MS Project professional, to publish it to the server, I saved the sub projects to the server and then published the master project. 

In the project center, when subprojects checkbox is checked, I can see the subprojects. But when trying to extract the projects in excel using OData, subprojects are also extracted as separate projects. 

How to have the hieracrchy of master project and subprojects in the extract also?

We are currently using Project Server 2013 along with MS-Project Pro client version.  I got a requirement where my PM send me a project file .MPP and asked me to upload to project server to update project schedule.  Here is what I did.

1. Open .MPP file
2. Save as > Select Production as Project Web App, click Save
3. Enter same name for Project that I want to upload, select "Project" for Type field, "Standard" for Calendar and leave empty for "Department" file.  No custom files map value
4. Click "OK" to the prompt where it said "You entered a project name that already exists in Project Web App.  To overwrite the existing project in the server, click OK..."

When I checkin and publish project, it overwrites my existing project details and others information beside schedule update.  I want to keep all information except update schedule.  How can I do that?
