Project server authentication from AD.

$

Hello,

Can someone tell me how the project server and hte PWA site syncronize from the AD.

I have a user who can't see the project despite of given the rights in ad group. (I'm not the one who created it, I'm just the support guy who give access to everybody :) )

Did a sync manually in the PWA server settings (ad resource sync). but i sure it is not what i looking for because it's default sync time is 1 day.

There is an another settings where the Project sharepoint site sync with the projects (projectsites), but it didn't work.

So right now i have absolutely no idea how can a user access to a project based on ad group and how to fix it if it isn't working.

So what i know:

There is an AD group that give access to the Project center. It is clear.

There are several AD group that give access to the project sharepoint site.

What i don't:

Giving access to the sharepoint site should give access to the project as well. But how?

How to install additional feature to SQL Server 2014 for Project Server 2013

$

Hi All,

I have installed SharePoint 2013 with SQL Server 2014 and almost 10 web applications were created and working fine. Know I got a requirement to install Project Server 2013 on existing SharePoint Dev (Standalone) and Prod(App Server and SQL Server) environment. For project server "Configuration of Analysis Services" is mandatory.

I have already installed SQL Server 2014 for SharePoint, I am trying to install additional feature "Analysis Services" but stuck at "Instance Configuration" which Instance to select (Default or Tabular).

Up on selecting "Default" instance it gives error "Instance Name "MSSQLSERVER" already in use. To continue specify unique instance name"

Can some one please help me here

Actual hours disappeared

Project Server 2013 (on prem), Apr 2016 CU,

Actual hours entered via "my tasks", saved and per “Send Status” sent to the Status manager, Status Manager clicks “Approve”.

After publishing the project (in MSP Pro), the actual hours entered before disappeared.

This behavior is not reproducable and appears sporadic on many projects at one customer.

Customer was migrated from 2010 to 2013. The issue occured first time with CU Jan 2016. Before no issue was recorded.

Error Message in Status History says “There was an internal error applying the update.”

Any ideas or similar cases known?

Thanks in advance

Oliver

Separate Build Team feature for Resource Plan and Schedule is actually confusing. If I have created team once, why should I re do it again. Is there a reason for separate Build Teams.

Identify who took an action on a Project Server Queue Job

Is it possible if we can track who (which resource) took an action (Retry, Cancel) against a Project Server 2010 queue job?

The reason is we are seeing instances where in the Project Server Queue jobs that are in error state (Failed and Blocking Correlation) are being cancelled but we are unable to find out who did it as cancellation of jobs is creating disrepancy with Reporting Vs Published data.

Hi Experts

I was just wondering if Microsoft has removed this option or I am the only one missing it in my Central Admin.

'Alerts and Reminders' option which was present in Central Admin --> Service Application Page --> Project Application Service --> Manage Project Web App --> Project Web App settings --> Under Operational Policies, is missing in my Central Admin and I am not able to trigger the workflow emails to the specified users.

Thanks

Background:

We are gearing up to upgrade our Project Server from 2003 to 2010; as part of this process we have installed MS Project Server 2010 on our dev environment. We created Test Project plans and assigned ourselves (we admins) to these plans and all of us have admin privileges.

Possible to show/hide Project Server 2013 PDP pages via SharePoint Workflow?

$

Hey all,

We have a client who wants specific PDP pages to be hidden or displayed depending on the stage a specific Project is in.

e.g. If Project A is in a 'Delivery' phase, then a 'Project Status' PDP page should be displayed.  If Project A never gets approval or management endorsement to proceed, then various PDP pages should never be displayed to Users.

Does anyone have experience achieving this via SharePoint Workflow?  Is it even possible?  Or is there a better way to achieve this?

Thanks in advance!

Project Templates with Enterprise Resources

I'm using Project Server 2013 ( latets updates installed for both Client and Server)

I've created a project template and attached this to a project type. My template has enterprise resources speciified. So far so good.

Now I'm trying to create a project using this template and I'm getting some errors.  (See below)

As soon as I remove the resources from my template the project creates fine.

It looks like 'rsResourceCannotAddLocalWithSameNameAsEnterprise'  in the error below means that Project Server looks at the resource in the template and considers the resources in the template always to be a local resources. And of course the resource already exists in my enterprise resources and therefore the project creation fails.

My questions are:

Are Enterprise Resources in templates supported?

Is there a way around this? We're trying to make it easy to select a subset of the enterprise resources available.

Unable to save resource plan in project server 2013.

Usually we build team for a project by clicking on Build Team -> Add resources -> Save & Close. But especially for two of our projects, when trying to click on 'Save & Close' after adding the resources, we get an error saying 'Project is no Longer checked out to you'.

We validated under 'force check-in enterprise objects' and either of the project or Resource plan doesn't appear over there.

Could someone provide some insights on this issue?

Task Level Custom Field with Formula Issue

Hi,

I have created a Task level Custom Field "Cost Indicator" with Text as Type.

I want to show CPI and SPI indicators in Project Schedule views with the values given below:

IIf([TaskCPI]>=0.8, "Green",
IIf([TaskCPI]<0.8, "Red","Yellow"))
IIf([TaskSPI]>=0.8, "Green",
IIf([TaskSPI]<0.8, "Red","Yellow"))

Also set Graphical indicators accordingly.

When I save Custom field, it shows error:

"This formula contains references to one or more fields that do not exist in the system. Correct the formula and try again."

Am I missing something in above formulas OR [TaskCPI] & [TaskSPI] can't be used in custom field formula?

Thanks,

Hi,

I want to set permission for users in a group who can view only Schedule.aspx (cannot edit). Project Details Pages and Project Site should not be visible to user.

Which permissions in Group & Category should I set to achieve this?

Thanks,

Noman Sohail

Users not able to view resources in resource plan and also not able to add new resources to the resource plan in project server 2013

I recently came across a situation where two of our users were not able to see the added resources in resource plan. Moreover they can add new resources but cant save them. All they see is an alert saying 'Project is no longer checked out to you'.It happens only for specific projects.

As the alert says it was checked out to someone else, I tried to force checkin the project/resource plan but it doesn't appear in the 'Force Checkin Enterprise Objects' itself.

I thought whether those users doesn't have enough privilege to do the operation, but they are part of Project Managers/Portfolio Mangers where they have full access to do this task.

Can someone provide some insights on what caused this issue to the users.

Adding work resources

I'm fairly new to Project. We have Project Server 2016 here at work, and I've read through a lot of the documentation, but am still not clear on how to do some things.
Within a project, I kind of get how to add a new work resource (a human) in the client application, Project Professional. But even that's a little fuzzy. However, I want to be able to add a person and assign them a task so he/she can update the status of that task in the web interface, as most of the people I will be adding do not have Professional.

I'm probably asking this the wrong way or without the proper terminology.
