How to restrict Users from editing pages in Project Server 2013/SharePoint 2013

$

Hello,

We have a fairly vanilla, on-premise Project Server 2013 platform whereby all Users can see data, project sites etc.  i.e. Securing sites in terms of project site content is not important to the client.

What is important however is the need to prevent Users from being able to do the following, without breaking inheritance and without turning off Project Site Sync, as this adds enormous costs to system support and maintenance...

- ‘Delete this site’ (via the 'cog' > site settings > site actions; at PWA root and all Project Sites)

- Edit this Page (via the 'cog'; at PWA root and all Project Sites)

- Apply changes to themes, colours etc (at PWA root and all Project Sites)

Essentially we need to lock the look and feel of the sites down (and prevent Users from clicking 'Delete this site'!!), how do we go about this without having to break site inheiritance/edit permissions for every single site page, as this article suggests?

Choices aren't great - appreciate any guidance you can offer us.

Reassigning named resources and not generic resources

$

Hi All, I am using MS Project 2013 professional along with Project Server. I am trying to come up with a way to reassign tasks to generic resources and then come up with a way to find out which named resource will be completing the work.

For example, if I have a task with a design engineer down to do it, I want a way to find out which named resource will be completing the work.

Thanks,

Dan

How to incrase the width of "Task Name" column in "My Task" view of PWA

$

Hello All,

Currently I am using Project Server 2007.

On the“My Task” Page in PWA, the “Task Name” filed has a certain width in the view“My assignment” and  it is set to automatically adjust to width. Hence, if the Task name is very large in text then it always seems to break after certain width and not showing full text or full task name in "Task Name" column. Which seems short.

For example : "TaskName1_Pro....!New"

But when we point the cursor to it, it will act as a tool tip giving the complete task name.

So i want to know that is there any way to increase the width of the column“Task Name” so that we can see the complete name of any task without using the Tool Top?

Thanks,

Creating Hierarchy of Project Sharepoint Sites

I am managing a program that is composted on multiple projects.  Each project has a separate schedule that rollup up into a program schedule.  In Project Server 2010, can I structure a sharepoint site heirarchy using the Project Server Sharepoint Project Site Template to represent this heirarchy.  My thoughts were that I create the projects using a PS Site Template under a Sharepoint site that I use to display program level metrics/schedule and rollup risks and possibly other lists from the projects.

Unable to open Ms Project client when clicking on a project in Project server

Hi all,

we are currently experiencing the following problem in Internet Explorer 11: When trying to open a project from the PWA site in MS Project client (by clicking the little Gantt icon in front), it does not open the project sheet in the MS Project client. This has worked fine in the past. When trying the same in Chrome, the Project client opens without any problem.

We are using project server 2016 as well as project client 2016.

Anyone who's experiencing the same issue and knows a solution?

thanks,

Tom

MS Project 2016: Error when adding an engagement request for a task during weekends

$

Hi all,

When trying to create a resource engagement for work on Saturday and Sunday on a named resource, we get the following error message ‘End date cannot be earlier then start date’.

More info on the steps taken:

  • Task created in the Project WBS, altered the task calendar to weekend and enabled the checkbox ‘Scheduling ignores resource calendars’
  •  Assigned a named resource to the task (Named resource has standard workdays calendar set up on Project server)
  • Creation of an engagement request by using the ‘Fix in Engagement Inspector’
  • When clicking 'ok' in the engagement information window, the system throws the error ‘End date cannot be earlier then start date’

Anybody has a solution for this?

thanks,

Tom

MS Project server 2016: Issue re-assinging group tasks

Hi all,

We currently experiencing issues when trying to reassign a group task from one named resource to another

We created a resource team called ‘CIS group’ and added 5 people. We want to assign tasks to this group so that the members of this group can pull these tasks to themselves. We can successfully assign a task to the CIS group and the first person can also successfully pull a task and put it on his name. However, when he wants to reassign this task to the group (or another person), this fails.

When you select the task in the ‘Timesheet’-section on PWA and click on ‘Reassign’, this error message is shown:

No Assignments Found to Reassign

  • No tasks within your selection can be reassigned. Confirm with your project manager that the project(s) allow task reassignment.

Normally all access rights should be ok.

Anybody that can help me solving this issue?

Thanks,

Tom

Can project manager (project web app sync) permissions be modified?

$

All,

Can the 'project manager (project web app sync)' group permissions be modified?  Everytime I try and modify the permissions of this group at the root PWA level, they revert back to a default set of permissions almost instantly.

Background is that I'm trying to remove the following permissions from PMs...I mean why on earth would you want them messing about the pages in the first place!  AmIright?!  :)

-Add and Customize Pages  -  Add, change, or delete HTML pages or Web Part Pages, and edit the Web site using a Microsoft SharePoint Foundation-compatible editor.
-Apply Themes and Borders  -  Apply a theme or borders to the entire Web site.
-Apply Style Sheets  -  Apply a style sheet (.CSS file) to the Web site.

Is this is possible, how do you do it?

Thanks in advance.

Getting data into ProjectServer instance using SharePoint forms app

$

Hello, I'm new to the whole Microsoft server environment so I have no idea if this is even possible.

Anyway, my idea is to set up a SharePoint website and have multiple users submit all kinds of forms (through the SharePoint forms app). Ideally, the data from these forms would be inserted into a Project file on the server.

Does anyone know if this is at all possible and how?

Thanks!

I'm using SharePoint 2013 and ProjectServer 2013.

Hours not matching in timesheet and task center

Hi,

I have 2 project tasks in my timesheet say task1 and task2.

for task1 i filled 8,8,8 hours and for task2 4,8 hours and submitted the timesheet and apporved.

But later i decided to move the hours from task 2 to task 1. so I  recalled and submitted the timesheet by setting 8,8,8,4,8 hours to task1. Here the problem is the updated hours are not coming in task center as per time sheet. It was showing old hours values in task center.

Do you have any idea on this type of issue..

How to match the hours in time sheet with task center?

Thanks in advance.

Tasks and Timesheets Get Stuck - Line with 0 Hours

$

My organization deployed Project 2013 about 6 weeks ago. We are set up so that Project Managers have to finish the line approvals prior to the managers getting the timesheets to approve. Managers also have to approve the administrative line items before the time sheet appears for approval.

We are running into an issue that we cannot explain. A timesheet will occasionally get stuck. The system seems to think there is a task that still needs to be approved before the timesheet is generated. If we look at the employee's timesheet, there will be an administrative task/line item with no hours or any value that says it is waiting for approval. Why does the system do this? Is there something I am missing? I can't seem to find a common thread.

My only explanation is that they employee accidentally put hours in a task and then deleted them, and for some reason that is hanging up the system? Any help would be appreciated.

User can not save baseline, but can change baseline fields and delete task with baseline values

We have several users not allowed to save baselines, but them can manually change baseline fields and delete tasks with baseline values.

So, they can change the baseline and we don't want this.

How can we change the behavior to not allow changes in the baseline?

Thanks and best regards.
