    Basics - using Project 2016 in a Project Server 2013 environment.

    One of my coworkers showed me the most bizarre problem I have ever seen in over 20 years of using Project. Working with an existing project file, a new task is inserted and all the task parameters are filled out. Then, upon saving the file, the task immediately above the new task is deleted! I didn't believe it until I saw it happen for myself. This is a new one for me.

    Any ideas?

    I am having difficulty changing the project owner for a particular project.

    Full permissions have been granted to the new project owner on the project. When I change to the new owner in the project PDP and select save, it saves but when I go back to project center and check, the old owner is still assigned.

    When I try to change the project owner on other projects it works OK.

    What could be the problem? How can I fix?

    I am in a bit of a dilemma.

    I added a few columns through PWA setting->Manage Views->My Work->My Assignment. The resources in the team updated their changes in their Task and sent for approval and it was approved by the Status Manager. 

    What I forgot to do was: Add the same columns in PWA setting->Manage Views->Project->Task Schedule/Task Summary. 

    Now I can't seem to figure out even after adding those field in the Task Summary and Task Schedule, then checking in and publishing the project I can't seem to see the approved Task changes in the main Project.

    Hi All ,

    I was creating a new project and  noticed that all of the fields on the Project Details page were pre populating with the same information from a project that was created on the 2 week back. These fields should be blank as the information is project specific and is entered manually from the requiremnt.

    I have noticed that some fields does not exists in the Project views (not project center) available fields, for example "Status" field that is a task level field is not there.

    I was wondering why and also if there is any documentation about what type of fields can be added to which pwa views (including custom fields).

    I wantto be able to understand the logic of why certain fields cannot be added to views.

    We have implemented Project Server 2010. We have project managers (20 persons) that use Microsoft project 2010 and Project server 2010, and team members ( 100 persons)  that only use Project server 2010.

    We have a problem of different information between the plans in project and the tasks updated in project server. A team member update a  task in the timesheet clicks "send Status" or "Send timesheet" , the project manager approved the tasks in the Approval Center. The line Manager approved the timesheet. But when you open the project plan in the Microsoft project plan this plan doesn't have the last infomation and updates coming from the team members.

    We go in the Approval Center and to the "History" , "Approval updates", and some approval are published, other approval are not published. And it's a huge problem to us, because we are working in this tool, 2 months, more than 100 persons, and I have a huge list of no changes update in my projects.

    I have one update in "error",  Action "Rejected" says "The update was not applied because it contains invalid data".

    And in the other hand, I suppose due to this unlink between project plans and timesheets, the team members suffer continues changes in their timesheets, and in the task updates they have sent, or they don't have the proper assignation to taks, in their timesheets. I have a lot screenshots, but  I don't Know how to put here.

    Any Ideas? Any Help? We are living a nightmare with this... is there something wrong in the parametrization?

    Having a bit of a problem -

    We have several custom fields which are used for grouping purposes, but I cannot get the text in these fields to populate in the task view in PWA (My Work -> My Tasks).  As an example, lets say I have a custom text column called "Manufacturing Unit".  It's a global field, and it shows up just fine in both MSP client and the project view in PWA, and makes sorting by manufacturing unit very easy.  Any changes I make in either the client or the PWA are correctly captured and reflected appropriately.  Now, if I add the column to the view in My Tasks, the column itself appears, but no data is in it.  If I add the text manually and submit/approve changes to the task, the text remains, but does not propagate to the appropriate location in the plan.  It's as if the custom column in the task view is completely disconnected from the very same custom column in the plan itself.  Any ideas?

    Hi All,

    I have a client where he is trying to open a project from Professional and when ever he does his Professional gets crashed throwing this info. Its just for only one project but rest of them can be opened fine and gets published successfully.

    Interestingly only one person is able to open that same project and is able to edit it as well. ( All the users have the same

    I am looking for a view to show Clients in PWA that they can get to in the Web. If our users do not have Project and want to see a task created with resources assigned, is there a view that we can use through Project Center similar to the 'Task Usage' View in MS Project? I want to show this view so that the tasks are shown and resources assigned are there. I know there is a column for resource names, but we want to list them under the task so that we can show their "Actual Work" vs "Work" or "Baseline Work". If you can point me in how we can show this, that would be great help. Also, is there a way we can link a Project URL to take us to that Project View in PWA rather than having to navigate through Project Center and clicking on that particular project?? In other words, can we just use a direct link through the URL to take us to the project directly? Please advise

    hi there!

    I'm facing an issue that I cannot save any changes I make to any customized views/filters/modules etc I have within the Enterprise Global.

    The moment I make any changes and click save, nothing happens. Also, if I then want to close and check-in the Enterprise Global, it remains checked out. So then I have to force check-in the EGlobal.

    If I don't make any changes and close the Enterpise Global, it checks-in like normal.

    Does anyone know how this issue occurred and/or how to fix this?

    Our projects follow the project numbering convention of P###. Over the last two weeks we've noticed a couple of our projects randomly change (as shown above, 100011) and we dont know why. Nobody has gone in and changed anything or changed the project numbers.

    Has anyone encountered this issue? Is this a bug?  Please let me know thank you!

    It still appears as checked out to the user and when I click the link in Project center is says:

    The Check-in operation has been queued, but is taking longer than expected to process. To check the status of the Check-in queue job, either visit the My Queue Jobs page, or refresh the page.

    Click OK to close the project and return to Project Center.

    As a support admin, is there anything I can do to fix the issue or will it need to be resolved by the owner of the project? Please lists steps to correct the error. Any feedback approcaited!

    Hi There,

    I have a task assigned for 10 days with Resource A at 100% commitment.

    I have agreement for resource A to work 4 hours overtime each day over the 10 days on Task B

    How do I allow this over allocation to occur without project levelling and moving the tasks.

    IE. I want them stacked

    I do not want to set his calendar to 12 hour days for these 2 weeks in case dates move, and then other tasks get the 12 hour days.

    I simply want him to be able to work 4 hours overtime on Task B whenever it is scheduled.

    I had requirement to move documents from root site Document Library to specific project site Library automatically.

    Its a schedule process in which user will upload document at root site and its will be routed to desired project site document library.

    Thank you for your help.

    We are trying to update Timesheet Manager field for Many employees (almost 800) as we are trying to send their Admin time for approval to their Line Managers or resource managers. so far, all the time was auto approved with their own name in the Timesheet Manager field.

    Every update to this one field is taking about 30 minutes to process on the server and it is running only Single threaded.

    Is there a way to mass update this timesheet manager field for multiple resources at the same time?

  • Hi, is there anyway I can build an allowance per day into my task assignments for hotel costs.   eg 10 Day task with 2 resources working on it.  Each Resource has a £200 per day Hotel allowance so for the 10 day task the forecast cost for each resource is £1800 for the 9 nights working away accommodation.   I want to be able to extract the £1800 figure across time-phased alongside all other labour and fixed costs. I need the calculation to be able to cater for the task duration changing and the number of resources being increased/decreased.   Possible??
