We have recently gone live on a Timesheeting system based on Project Server 2007.

I now want to know how the system could be improved using 2010 or 2013.

But first you would need to know our requirements and what we did in 2007 ...

We needed the GUI of My Timesheets and the Admin tasks but approvals based on what project/task it was. Ie PM approval not line management approval.

We managed it by entering timesheets in My Timesheets, importing to My Tasks and then regularly picking up published Task Updates in the Table EPMAssignmentByDay and capturing them in an added table in the Reporting database. We had a few key requirements which required some customisation:

    1. Need to capture the timestamp of when approved. to nearest hour. plus approver ID (ie status manager) and the cost centre at that time of the resource (they can move sometimes)
    2. Need to be able to freeze approved records - so that after that point they can't be changed. And financial reports can run and know the data won't change.

2 - is a headache for us. There is no mechanism to stop a user from trying to update frozen records. We currently have to just ignore the updates

We also wanted expenses - but that wasn't possible in 2007.

The new "Single Entry" mode looks like it will make life easier for the users.

    But:

    1. Is there any concept of timestamping the approvals?
    2. Is there any concept of freezing the approved data?
    3. The new Timesheet user-defined fields. Could these be used to add an expense amount and comment?

I now know my way around the 2007 Reporting Database (at least parts of it) - but haven't found documentation to tell me what changed at the level need to answer the questions above.

    Thank you

    Hi,

I'm attempting to integrate Project Server 2010 with Exchange 2013 and I'm getting the following errors.

    • ExchangeSync() - Could not get root folder.:
      • ExchangeSyncCouldNotGetRootFolder (40503). Hi All,

I have created lot of projects in the project server online and all of a sudden all the tasks (project schedule) are not appearing in the project. I can see the project title, but when I go inside it doesn't show the tasks.

    Thanks,

    Rohan

    Hi,

As we know we can have one currency at a time in Project Server what are the ways followed when below scenario needs to be achieved:

    1. Few projects in one currency and few in other

    2. Few resources with standard rate in one currency and few in other currency

    Hi,

We have "manage content types" set on within the library of our Project Site template.

We find that when the users upload a document which is not of Content Type "project site document", the document indicator icon in the Project Centre is not show.

Anybody else seen this - is this a known behaviour - any workaround?

    Thanks

    Pratrap

    Dear All,

I have created new EPT in Project Server 2013. After that, when i am creating any new project in PWA 2013 by using newly created EPT, then i am not able to change Date as per my requirement.

Basically, EPT created on 02/18/2015 & even though i am changing Project start date then its again showing same date (02/18/2015)

Kindly suggest what i can do.

    Hi,

I'm having a bit of an odd issue in that a PWA security group has Edit Project Summary Fieldsbut not Save Project to Project Server. When members of this group try to save edits to custom fields on a PDP, they receive an error stating:You need to have permissions to create a new project.  Please ask the project Web App administrator for permissions.  What does happen is that the value is changed for draft version of the field, but not the published version (i.e. once the project is checked in, the edit "disappears" until checked out again).

What is confusing is that with the same permission configuration in 2010, members of the group are able to edit the custom fields just fine.

I've tried various combinations of other permissions, but the Save to... is the magic one.  Of course, this creates the issue that people are able to edit project schedules when they should not have that ability.

This is an on-premises installation of Project Server 2013 running the February 2015 CU.  I've also tested this on another system and get the same behaviour so I am led to believe it is by design.  Microsoft's documentation states:

Allows a user to edit only the enterprise project fields shown in the new project fields Web Part. If you do not have this permission, but have "Save Project to Project Server" you can still edit project-level fields/custom fields in the project field Web Part.

    Am I missing something?

    Chris

Is it possible to enter (not approve) time on a team member's behalf in Project Online? We are moving from Clarity to MS Project Online, and we are accustomed to having Approvers enter time for their team members. This works well when other timesheet enforcement efforts don't work for team members.

    Thanks!

    Hi All,

I have configured project server 2013 and it is working fine. Now if I change the ip address and host name, will it impact anything on running application. If so, what are the steps I need to keep in mind. Any link or documentation will  be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,

I am testing Project Server 2013. I have switched to Project Server Permissions Mode. When publishing a project, it shows the pop-up for creating a project site and the do not create site this time option is disabled. In the Server Settings I am not able to see the "Project Site Provision Settings" option. How do I enable this? Or is there any other alternative.

    Cheers, Amit Wairkar

    Hello All,

I have set up an On-Premise Project server 2013 with Workflow manager configured.

However, I am running into issues publishing project server 2013 workflow with the following

Microsoft.Workflow.Client.ActivityValidationException: Workflow XAML failed validation due to the following errors:
Cannot create unknown type '{clr-namespace:Microsoft.Office.Project.Server.WorkflowActivities}EnterProjectStage'. HTTP headers received from the server - ActivityId: 0a1bbbe4-394a-434d-a3ee-23b474db6267. NodeId: WEMASP. This only occurs with Project Server 2013 and not Sharepoint server 2013, please any clues.

    Hi,

I'm having some trouble doing something that I thought would be fairly straightforward: use a custom formula field to determine the number of days between the value of a date variable field and the current date.

We have a number of projects in an "on hold" status.  I created a custom field titled "Hold Through Date" that we use as a reference point for when work is expected to begin/resume on the project in question.  I am trying to develop a field that will flag projects whose holds are expiring in the near future.  I tried using a formula that subtracts the current date from the "Hold Through Date":

    [Hold Through Date] - Now()

But the resulting field won't populate.  What am I doing wrong?

    Thanks in advance,

    Andrew Moffitt

    Hi,

I am facing an issue while trying to synchronize an AD group in project server. There are two problem areas (I suspect they are connected):

    1. If I go to 'Active Directory Resource Pool Synchronization' option in server settings, and add a group name to Active Directory Group section, its searches and finds the group as expected. However if I hit 'save' or 'save and synchronize' button, nothing happens. The page stays still. Only the cancel button works. Have tried this on different browsers as well, but no luck.

    2. I try to do a work around and synchronize this AD group to a Project Server group directly, by adding the group name to 'Active Directory Group' in 'Add or edit group' page. The group name gets resolved successfully, and when I hit save, the page closes as expected, without any error. However, the group name goes missing, as if I never entered it before saving.

Any idea what could have gone wrong there. Any help here will be much appreciated.

    Thanks

  • Hello

Users actual hours are showing up in their timesheet before they make any entry into the sheet. Also, the status of the timesheet is already approved when they first go into the timesheet. When a user enters hours and hits save what populates is not what the user enters. Any thoughts as to what might be causing this?

    Hi,
Resource Utilization report in Excel format on Existing/running projects, the Aim is - to know which resource is free or available from that report to hookup on other projects,
How much each resource is utilized in various tasks under a single projects,
